Katalin Novak Family – Katalin Novak is a Hungarian politician and Hungary’s president. Her term began May 10, 2022, and will come to an end when the Hungarian parliament accepts her resignation on February 10, 2024.She began working for the government in 2001, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After six years of raising her children at home, she returned as an assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs before becoming Minister Zoltán Balog’s Head of Cabinet at the Ministry of Human Capacities. From 2014 to 2020, she was Secretary of State for Family and Youth Affairs before becoming Minister for Families. She’s been a member of the Hungarian National Assembly since 2018.

Katalin Novak was born on 6 September 1977 in Szeged, Hungary.Novák graduated from Szeged’s Ságvári Endre Secondary School in 1996 and went on to study economics and law at Corvinus University in Budapest and the University of Szeged separately. While a student, she also studied abroad at Paris Nanterre University. Novák speaks Hungarian, French, English, German, and Spanish.

Novák began working at the Foreign Ministry in 2001, focusing in European Union and European issues. She was named Minister of Human Resources’ Head of Cabinet in 2012 after being a ministerial advisor in 2010.

She joined the Ministry of Human Capacities as State Secretary for Family and Youth Affairs in 2014, and was appointed Minister of Family Affairs in October 2020, a position she held until December 2021.She was Vice President of Fidesz from 2017 to 2021.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán named Novák as his nominee for the 2022 presidential election on December 21, 2021.On March 10, 2022, she won with 137 out of 188 votes in the National Assembly.Novák is the first woman to serve as president in the country’s history.

In April 2023, the National Assembly passed legislation that allows and encourages residents to report same-sex couples who have children to state officials such as police and child welfare.Novák vetoed the bill, preventing it from becoming law.In May 2022, she opposed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
