Raheem Morris began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Hofstra in 1998, where he oversaw the offensive scout squad, created scouting reports, and handled videos breakdown and computer analysis. In 1999, he joined Cornell University as the defensive backs coach and special teams assistant.

He returned to Hofstra in 2000 and coached the defensive backs for two seasons. He also worked as a defensive minority intern for the New York Jets in 2001, where he gained crucial NFL experience.

He was promoted to defensive assistant in 2003, then to assistant defensive backs coach in 2004. He worked closely with famed defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and coached some of the league’s top players, including Ronde Barber, John Lynch, and Derrick Brooks.

In 2006, he left the Buccaneers to become Kansas State University’s defensive coordinator, succeeding Bob Stoops. He guided the Wildcats to a 7-6 record and a spot in the Texas Bowl, which they lost to Rutgers 37-10. He also coached future NFL stars including Josh Freeman, Jordy Nelson, and Yamon Figurs.

In 2009, he was named the Buccaneers’ head coach, succeeding the fired Gruden. He became the NFL’s youngest head coach at the age of 32. He took over a team that was in rebuilding mode, having lost key seasoned players and coaches. He faced a difficult challenge in his debut season, finishing 3-13 and last in the NFC South.

Morris joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2015, where he reconnected with his former colleague and friend, Dan Quinn, who had been hired as head coach. He was first employed as the associate head coach and pass game coordinator for both the offense and defense.
