Khai began his singing career in 2013 by uploading song covers to YouTube. In 2015, he joined the app Smule, where he sung karaoke duets with other users and celebrities, and he earned greater exposure and notoriety. Fans nicknamed him “King of Smule” because of his vocal skills and personality.
