Gegard Mousasi joined Pride FC in 2006 and agreed to compete in that year’s Welterweight Grand Prix. At Pride Bushido 11, Mousasi faced Makoto Takimoto in the first round.Takimoto’s eye socket was damaged in the first round, hence Mousasi won by TKO. It happened in the second round when he was knocked down by an armbar, but Mousasi did not win.

Gegard defeated Denis Kang in the opening round of the Dream’s 2008 Middleweight Grand Prix at Dream 2. Kang had already defeated Gono in the semi-finals of the Pride Welterweight Grand Prix.

Mousasi defeated Dong Sik Yoon in the second round of the Dream 4 event. He then advanced to the final round, which was held at Dream 6.ADCC Europe president Marko Leistén stated during a meeting on November 21, 2008, that Mousasi would compete in one of the ADCC Championships in 2009.
