In 2016, Sinner started competing on the ITF juvenile Circuit, the premier junior tour was running by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Even though he achieved little success as ajunior career, he mainly joined the professional tour at the end of 2017.
Sinner won his first ATP Challenger title in Bergamo, Italy, in February 2019 at the age of 17 years and 6 months, despite having no Challenger-level wins prior to the tournament. He was the first person born in 2001 to reach a Challenger final and the youngest Italian in history to win a Challenger title.
Sinner qualified to the second round of the 2020 Australian Open by defeating local wild card Max Purcell before falling to Márton Fucsovics. This was Sinner’s first victory in a Grand Slam main draw match. As a wild card at the Rotterdam Open, he defeated world No. 10 David Goffin to claim his first top 10 victory.
He became the youngest player since Rafael Nadal in 2005 to win back-to-back ATP titles.His ten-match winning streak came to an end in the first round of the 2021 Australian Open, where he lost to the twelfth-ranked Denis Shapovalov in a five-set match.
He defeated Gal Monfils in the third round of the US Open and made it to the second week of a Major for the second time this season. Alexander Zverev ended Sinner’s tournament in the fourth round with a straight sets victory.
