Gina began a career as a professional fighter (Muay Thai) after graduating from college, and her efforts won her national notice. After attaining a 12-1-1 Muay Thai record, Carano competed in the first sanctioned female MMA event with World Extreme Fighting, defeating Leiticia Pestova in 38 seconds.
Carano also competed in the first female bout of “Strikeforce: Triple Threat” on December 8, 2006, defeating Elaina Maxwell by unanimous decision.On February 10, 2007, Carano’s Showtime EliteXC victory over Julie Kedzie was dubbed the “fight of the night” and was Showtime’s first televised female bout.
